A record that will always remain intact, an interesting box-office history !!

Mard(1985) did release in midst of the piracy wave brought about by onset of the VCRs and TV era of the 1980s, but Mard still created true havoc and set opening records in many parts of India. After coolie, Mard was first movie to gross 100% business in first three weeks of Mumbai territory, in fourth week its collections recorded as 97%.

For next 13 years, no movie able to do 100% business in Mumbai territory for three straight weeks. It was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998 when a similar pattern of business was seen once again. KKHH also did 100% business(Around 65 Lakhs each week) for three weeks and 97% in fourth week. Exactly same pattern as of Mard in 1985.

And now 14 years passed, this record still intact. And now the way movies are performing at box-office, it looks KKHH will remain last movie holding this achievement.

* Mard holding many other records as well, but that will be in separate post.

  1. yakuza bhai, this is very interesting record but as i know aakhri raasta did four straight 100% collection in mumbai territory. give me detail information about both of big b movies.apart from that if mard would have been released in 1998 the collection would be 9.5*7 = 66.5 crores. which is 22 crore more than kkhh. avg ticket price in 1985 was around 5 rs and 1998 price was 35 rs.

  2. I always love these interesting facts. But I am quite shocked because even with the stiff competition from bade Miyan Chote Miyan, KKHH still managed to open up to 100%?!?

I was going to mention the Aakhri Raasta fact.

Other interesting facts are like the trending of Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Gadar.

Also interesting fact, despite the huge grosser of KKHH, it still remains to be the weakest All-Time Blockbuster (ATBB), when you come it to the other ATBB in the past or present years.

    • Hey Randy .. very nice to see you after so long.

BMCM collections were record breaking in first week. KKHH was 100% only in Mumbai territory, in interiors BMCM had huge edge. But in long run BMCM started settling down on 5th week on wards while KKHH had winning steak over many months.

Yes Akhree rasta was 100% in Mumbai for 4 weeks .. but i am not sure if it was Bombay city or entire Mumbai circuit.

      • Makes sense, thanks for the update bro. And I think you are right on Aakhree Raasta.

Any updates on Ek Tha Tiger?!?
