Yakuza, with the theatrical trailer, Teri Mast Mast and Munni Baadnaam, how are the prospects of Dabangg faring at the BO?
If Dabangg becomes a Blockbuster at the BO, how will this affect Salman Khan, will it put him in the top 3?
Randy said this on August 4, 2010 at 1:11 pm | Reply
Randy, Dabangg has huge potential to beat Ghajini at BO. About number game, it depend on salman. With lack of self promotion, even Ajay devgan, after series of hits, is not considered as cnadidate of top stars.
Yakuza said this on August 4, 2010 at 1:23 pm | Reply
But even with self promotion, and Salman Khan being the main bankable solo star in this film, and if Dabangg scores huge at the BO (Blockbuster+), can this elevate Salman Khan to a higher position in the ranking? Currently, I see Salman Khan at #4 or 5, can this put him in the top 3 range?
Randy said this on August 4, 2010 at 1:27 pm | Reply
although he doesn’t do much promotion, his choice of movies is becoming quite good and the audience aren’t stupid…they know the actors that give them value for money. Also Ajay’s movies are economically sound….i.e. he’s learning the art which Aamir has perfected – keeping the budget realistic.
KM said this on August 6, 2010 at 2:28 pm | Reply
salman has the biggest mass appeal , in that respect he’s far more popular than srk n aamir.. he has always been in the top 5 irrespective of hits n flops. i once read somewhere.. that ppl go to watch salman’s movies to see his antics on screen ,not bothering much abt stories. it won’t be an overstatement to say salman’s screen presence is more appealing than srk ,aamir . But his wrong choice of films n least interested performance(sleepwalking.. ) in some movies ‘ve let him down. hopefully he ‘ll become more careful in choosing the right films n give his best in those projects. when salman gives his best n doesn’t sleepwalk in movies he creates euphoria at the box office.

Salman Khan is definitely the biggest mass superstar today. Wanted revived the single screens, thanks to Salman Khan in a massy role. If trade reports are to be believed, it was Salman Khan who started the bumper opening trend. That’s why back in the 90s, most of his films were HITS at the BO because they had took huge opening at the BO (he did it on a consistent basis). Even his flop films were nearly recoverable thanks to the good opening it received.
There’s no doubt that Salman Khan has that certain charisma, which stars don’t have (BOI even stated it), hence making Salman Khan a future legend in the Bollywood screen.

Salman to be trained by action master Philippe Guegan
Salman Khan is back to action after trying hands in several comedy films. And this time, he has taken the action very seriously after doing some action-packed scenes in Veer, Wanted and the upcoming movie Dabangg. The actor is now going to take some tips from Hollywood action master Philippe Guegan for his next film Kick, which is a remake of a Telugu hit film of 2009.
Buzz up!Philippe Guegan, the French maestro of on-screen action, will be training Salman Khan to take his action hero image to another level. Philippe has some big international super hit action films to his credit, which include Rush Hour 3, The Transporter, Hitman, Taken, and The Kiss Of The Dragon.
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has been lucky to get Philippe Guegan, who is usually booked by the leading Hollywood films for stunts in advance for months. Sajid has also convinced Philippe to come here in Mumbai to train the Bollywood actor with some amazing stunts that were never seen here.
Confirming the news, Nadiawala says, “We wanted to take the action to the next level through Kick. And, the step is taken not only for Salman but also for the Indian cinema as a whole. We are happy that Philippe has agreed to fly down to Mumbai in September to train Salman personally”.
Initially, Sajid wanted to appoint Vijay, who performed the stunts in the Telugu version of the film. But Salman wanted someone of international caliber to take the action of the Kick to the next level from Dabaang

Salman Khan to host Bigg Boss Season 4
Few days after, from now your television screens will be flooded with Bollywood celebrities. Earlier it was Amitabh Bachchan who was in news for accepting Kaun Banega Crorepati offer and now it is Salman Khan, who reportedly has accepted the offer to host Bigg Boss Season 4.
Buzz up!Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar were earlier approached by the channel to host the show, but probably things didn’t work out in both the cases and finally it was Salman who bagged the offer. Before this it was Shahrukh who hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati after Amitabh Bachchan and now it is Salman who will be hosting Bigg Boss after Big B who was seen in season 3 of the show.
Interestingly Kaun Banega Crorepati and Bigg Boss 4 will be aired in two different channel at the same time on the same day. Definitely, it will a war for TRPs. When on one side it will be the manly voice of Amitabh Bachchan which will attract the viewers on the other side it will be Salman’s out of the box style that will hook the audience.
When asked about the competition and comparison which will definitely crop up between the two, Salman says that both of them have different styles, and more over he is not on television to have a TRP war, rather his aim is to connect to his fan through the small screen in their living room.
While last season of Bigg Boss saw Amitabh Bachchan acting as a friend, philosopher and guide to the inmates of the house, Salman Khan will be seen in a more straight forward role. Salman was last seen hosting the Television Dus Ka Dum which turned out to be a great success on small screen. Now, it is Bigg Boss season which is expected to rock because of his unique style and friendly nature.
Well, though we are sure that Amitabh and Salman will do total justice to the show, it is the audience who will face the problem in deciding what to watch. We wish all the luck to them.

I would be limiting my film if I said that Dabangg takes off from where Wanted left. Yes, it has got all the masala of Wanted but there is much more to Dabangg. That is just one aspect of the film. It’s got far more serious drama than shown in Wanted. Salman’s character kills about fifty people in Wanted but in Dabangg, he hardly kills. It’s more in the masti zone. Chulbul Pandey is more interested in the money than in the killing.
What does it mean???? It has less action scene than Wanted??? Abinav saying he has influence frm his brother…It is more story base story or wht???

dont knw seems like sure shot winner at single screen. wd not say that it will break ghazini’s record but will surely be a superhit.
The only thing i worry abt is the fact maybe salman will be doing comedy in this movie . That might become the week point if he do comedy the way he did in Hello brother or chal mere bhai > i hope he has a more serious and action role which completely suits him nowadays

Salman Khan to produce Hindi remake of Mee Shivajiraje
MUMBAI: Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation is producing the Hindi remake of Mee Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy.
The producers have signed in Anil Kapoor to play the pivotal role.
Kapoor will play the role that Sachin Khedekar played in the Marathi film. While talks are on with other likely actors, director Mahesh Manjrekar prefers to be guarded on the matter. Says Manjrekar, “Don’t want to divulge anything further.”
Mee Shivajiraje Bhosle Boltoy also had Manjrekar essay the role of Shivaji.
Meanwhile, Being Human Foundation has also decided to remake Manjrekar’s take on the education system film Shikshanacha Aicha Gho that will have Khan play a father of two kids. Kangana Raut will play the female lead in the film.

Salman Khan open to doing ‘Dus Ka Dum 3’
Salman Khan has agreed to host Bigg Boss 4 on Colors, but he says that will not prevent him from accepting Dus Ka Dum on Sony if he is offered it.
Salman recently revealed that his contract with Dus Ka Dum makers had ended after two seasons. The third season was supposed to start in September but then Sony decided to air Kaun Banega Crorepati 4 instead and pushed back his show. So Salman agreed to do Bigg Boss.
Salman is already in discussions with top officials of Sony to do season 3 of Dus Ka Dum.
Meanwhile, Sallu says he has no interest in entering the Bigg Boss house or in deciding the contestants. He agreed to do Bigg Boss primarily because his mom and sisters are huge fans of the show.

Salman Khan DABANGG parted ways with Sony sweetly??
Salman Khan, the macho brat of bollywood who decided to dump Sony’s ‘Dus Ka Dum’ for the rival channel’s upcoming show ‘Bigg Boss’, is said to have done it in consultation with Sony people or so the channel has been claiming to the media.
In fact, Ajit Thakur of the Sony had gone on record saying that Salman Khan and the channel parted ways in an agreeable manner and if Salman would like to come back to host the show, nothing like that.
On the other hand, Salman Khan joked that he had swapped places with Big B and would come to Sony only on his own terms and conditions. He also made it clear that his contract with Sony was for two years and those two seasons had already gone.
The buzz is that Salman Khan was furious at his show ‘Dus Ka Dum’ being pushed behind to December from the earlier slated date to accommodate Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘KBC’.
Another theory doing the rounds in industry is that Salman Khan wanted to derive some benefit from his show in the promotion of his upcoming flick ‘Dabangg’(wherein he is opposite Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of Shatrughan Sinha), which was not possible after the ‘Dus Ka Dum’ had been pushed to December as ‘Dabangg’ was releasing on Eid.
Salman Khan is much attached to ‘Dabangg’ as the film is being produced by his own brother Arbaaz Khan.
The macho Khan wants the flick to succeed at all cost and so could not tolerate delaying of ‘Dus Ka Dum’, and instead went for ‘Bigg Boss’ on colors channel.
Salman Khan plays the character of a corrupt police officer in the film. His character goes by the name of Chulbul Pandey, which has already become rage among his fan followers. Sonakshi plays his love interest in the film.
The film has been set in the interiors of northern India, in the state of Bihar, and Salman Khan even prepared for the flick by losing his muscles to look somewhat unfit.

Luv is excited about Sonakshi’s Dabangg
His own career failed to take off well, but actor Luv Sinha is doing his best to promote his younger sister Sonakshi Sinha’s debut “Dabangg”.
“‘Dabangg’ just a month and 10 days away until the release! My sister is so lucky…’Dabangg’ is going to blow everyone away. (I) saw some amazing unseen stuff,””Luv posted on Twitter.
The 26-year-old son of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha is also in awe of Salman Khan, who features opposite Sonakshi in the film.
“..something to think about – Mr.Salman Khan is one of the few actors who has never played safe or just worked with big directors…,” added Luv, whose debut “Sadiyaan” earlier this year flopped at the box office.

Dabangg’s expensive promotion
Before the music launch of “Dabangg” in Delhi on Friday evening, there was palpable excitement in the air as Salman Khan arrived with brothers Arbaaz and Sohail, sister-in-law Malaika and leading lady Sonakshi Sinha in tow to promote his movie. While a delay in getting the stars together for the presentation was expected, the longer-than-expected wait, it was being whispered, was not because of a delay in flight schedules but because of the time that the stars were taking to get dressed.
However, it’s only later that TOI found out that actor Salman Khan had actually opted for wash and change stint at the hotel where the launch was being held, but was staying at another hotel in Noida. But the cost of his quick change in this five star hotel – `15,000, plus taxes. Sonakshi also opted for a wash and change break after her arrival in the city and her time at the luxury room of the hotel cost her `10,000, plus taxes. She was soon joined by parents Shatrughan and Poonam Sinha in her room, before they all left the venue. Unexpectedly, it was bro Sohail Khan, who arrived earlier in the day and kept a low profile throughout the do and later during the family party too, whose bill was nearly `1,50,000 for the stay.
While Sohail stayed overnight in a luxury room at the hotel, the family had put up at another hotel in Noida. But, before shifting to that location, they all partied at a bar in the hotel and were joined by music composer Lalit Pandit of Jatin-Lalit, on who’s song “Munni Hui Badnam” Malaika has performed an item number in the flick.

DABANGG and the Art of marketing of a film redefined
August 7, 2010 04:37:20 PM IST
Enkayaar, Bollywood Trade News Network
On the eve of release of music of DABANGG, Salman Khan’s new movie, one of the leading television news channel devoted more than 20 minutes of its program for the event. The platform was used only for promoting DABANGG and it could probably have happened for the first time where a music release of the film was covered in such detail by a news channel and the occasion was used to continuously run all the songs of the film in quick succession.
view DABANGG movie stills
It indeed is a smart bit of publicity exercise that can be camouflaged under the garb of promotion, but it is apparent that the art of media management, be it the video or the audio (in DABANGG’s case the radio partner’s host was hosting the music launch party) is now being tapped in as innovative manner as can be possible to create an aura around the film. After all, it is a question of footfalls on the first Friday of release followed by Independence Day. Incidentally, occasion of Independence Day has been very auspicious for Salman Khan as most of his films are released around the same time, capitalizing on Independence Day and the ensuing Eid.
As a matter of fact these days view has started gaining ground that media and the cinema publicity management is pulling all stops to create awareness about the product through as diversified means as could be possible to bring the audience back to cinema. DABANGG is no exception; therefore Shatrughan Sinha was also roped in on the eve of music launch of the film. In another smart move the music has been launched in Delhi instead of the usual Mumbai, probably owing to the fact that the notion of dabangai is more pronounced in Delhi and up the hinterland as compared to Mumbai and the adjoining areas where it is more of the Bhaigiri.
In fact up north and the country side it is always told in the hushed tones that there is no stronger DABANGG than a police inspector, and DABANGG is built around the same premise.
But indeed, it would have been much better if the message of DABANGGai had been promoted through a Hindi news channel and its regional variants as they have astounding viewership quite larger than the average English news channel. May be, it would start from the ensuing week.

Would Sonu manage to challenge the Salman might?
August 7, 2010 03:59:01 PM IST
Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network
When Salman Khan stands tall, it is difficult for most of the co-stars to get much rolling for them. It has been seen in the past as well as present where Salman’s charm has dominated proceedings from first till the last frame of a film. This is why when Sonu Sood was offered the role of Cheddi Singh who would be the prime antagonist in DABANGG, he had to be doubly sure about the meat in his role.
After all DABANNG is an out and out Khan affair with Salman in the central role and Arbaaz Khan as the producer. Due to the entire family coming together to make this film, wasn’t Sonu ever bothered about the fact that he may be over shadowed?
download SONU SOOD wallpapers
“I totally trusted the team when I came on board”, says Sonu in all the right earnest, “Also, it was made quite clear to me that the role of Cheddi Singh is right opposite to that of Chulbul Pandey which is played by Salman Khan. We both react to each other and the situations. It is a very parallel track and we are opposite each other. Once I started shooting, it was further reconfirmed that I had a meaty role.”
CHECK OUT: DABANGG, Moustaches and Hindi cinema
He did ensure even at the beginning of the shoot if he would actually get good enough screen space to leave a mark.
“That’s right, I spoke to Arbaaz about whatever doubts that I had. He was very sweet and giving me a patient hearing and clarifying all my doubts”, adds Sonu.
Set in Uttar Pradesh, DABANGG is the story of a corrupt police officer Chulbul Pandey and highlights the flaws and loopholes in the system. The film primarily deals with the unlawful practices in the states of UP and Bihar and releases all over this Eid i.e. 10th September.

Salman Khan’s new cause
Actor Salman Khan, who has rooted for his philanthropic foundation in 10 Ka Dum, is expected to do the same as the new host of the hit TV reality show Bigg Boss on Colors. Word of mouth is that Salman is also exploring possibilities how he can reach more needy people with his organisation. Salman, who is also launching merchandise for the charity, is even looking at exploring feature films to spread the word around.
Salman confirms to DNA, “It is true that I’m exploring how to go about it but it’s not something that I would want to discuss and reveal right now. In Bigg Boss my role is to ease the pressure of the contestants.”
Salman’s merchandise line includes watches, shirts, cuff-links and many other products. “There are lots of avenues that I’m exploring. It is a very affordable line as I’m looking at involving as many people possible to join me in my cause. God has created everyone equal and so we should all get the same education and opportunities,” he says.
Salman adds, “Because someone is underprivileged doesn’t mean that person has lost the right to education or happiness. I, as an individual, can only spend a certain amount on myself and if everyone thinks of giving the excess to help others, we can save many lives,” he says.
Meanwhile, sources say that the TV channel is renegotiating Salman’s contract with him to have him back on 10 Ka Dum. “I had a great stint but my contract has expired. If the channel wants me, I’m more than willing to do it again. I’m doing this now and Amitabh Bachchan is on that channel to host his show, developments will take some time to happen. But I’m very keen and hopeful,” he says.

‘I have 20 odd Pandey friends who I’ll send to Chunky for royalty’
Eid release Dabangg has a roll call of characters with quirky names, starting with Salman Khan who answers to the call of Chulbul Pandey. Apparently, actor Chunky Panday has demanded royalty because they have borrowed his initials. “I have 20 odd Pandey friends who I will send to Chunky for royalty,” retorts writer-director Abhinav Kashyap.
“Pandey or Panday is a common surname in UP and I have a nephew whose nickname is Chulbul. I borrowed it because Salman’s character in the film has a chulbula (naughty) side to him. We’ve had enough of Rajs, Vijays and Vikrams. And the name has caught on.” Arbaaz’s character in the film goes by the name of Makhi, short for Makhanchand.
“I heard it somewhere and it stuck in my mind,” says Kashyap, adding that Sonu Sood’s name in the film is Cheedi Singh and the script puns on the word hole. Raise the question top most on many minds about what Dabangg means and he says with a laugh, “Fearless but now don’t go thinking it is Veer 2. Up North, it’s a common word that means someone who is not scared of anyone. And Salman is like that in real life too so he fit the role perfectly.”
Buzz is that this being Arbaaz Khan’s debut production, big brother Salman had a lot to say in all departments, from the script and the shooting to the editing. “What you see as interference, I look at as creative involvement. Salman has not directed the film but he did make a few pertinant suggestions. So did so many others. It was a democratic set-up,” Kashyap argues.
Kashyap adds that Dabangg is not Wanted 2 either, as is being presumed. “We’ve just taken off from where Wanted left and gone bigger,” he says. “People need a reference point for everything but the only similarity between the two films is that Dabangg is an action film too, featuring Salman Khan.”

Salman is the new Paul of the movies
Paul, the Octopus, created a worldwide stir with his accurate predictions for the World Cup matches.
But nearer home it is Salman, The Rocktar, who is rapidly building up a reputation for accurate prophecies on Twitter. Ever since Salman started tweeting he has been regularly recommending one film or another. And the ones that he has so far recommended have all been successes. It started first with Raajneeti. One of Salman’s first tweets was in favour of the film, although he had not seen it. Raajneeti became the first blockbuster of 2010.
Then came Salman’s tweets on debutant Punit Malhotra’s I Hate Luv Storys. That too jelled with the audience. Lately, Salman has been gung-ho about another debutant Abhishek Sharma’s Tere Bin Laden, apparently because the producer Pooja Shetty is a pal.
That too has been very well-received.
The aftermath of Salman The Soothsayers’s soothing recommendations? Brother Arbaaz Khan is now sure the tweet-magic would work for their home production. Without informing Arbaaz, Salman has already started posting images and comments on Dabangg on the social network.
Laughs Arbaaz, “If Salman’s recommendations worked for three films so far, why not for us? We seem to have a resident soothsayer. And I plan to make maximum use of him.”
Arbaaz admits Salman has started his Twitter campaign for Dabangg a little prematurely. “He has been going around taking pictures on the sets and putting them on Twitter. It shows his enthusiasm for the film. I am happy to have Salman on my side. Dabangg is a very important release for Salman. He has no other release this year. We hope to use his time for him to visit non-metropolitan cities for promotion, since Dabangg is set in a small North Indian town.”
As for his uninterrupted luck on Twitter Arbaaz laughs,”I think more producers need to have Salman on their side, if the industry is to have more hits.”

Sonakshi donates her first pay!
Debutante Sonakshi Sinha, who will be seen opposite Salman Khan in ‘Dabangg’ releasing next month, has donated her signing amount to her co-star’s Being Human Foundation.
The 23-year-old actress, daughter of actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, said the first pay cheque is always special and she was glad that it will be used for a right cause.
Sonakshi said she believes in the “art of giving” and her parents have always encouraged her to do charity.
“Being Human was my first choice for charity as Salman is totally hands on with the foundation and always asks all of us for ideas and initiatives,” she said.
“There are some institutions you cannot trust. With Being Human, there was no such worry. I know my donation will make a difference to the lives of the needy,” Sonakshi added.

Why does Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ have double ‘g’?
Considering how superstitious many Bollywood stars have become, it seemed Arbaaz Khan had his first production ‘Dabangg’ spelt with double ‘g’. But he explains otherwise.
‘Dabangg’ means fearless. We had earlier spelt it as ‘Dabang’ but many people were reading it ‘Da-Bang’. There may be an astrological reason for all you know, but the actual reason is to cause a resonance and stress on ‘g’ so that the word is pronounced correctly,’ Arbaaz said.
‘Dabangg’ features Arbaaz’s elder brother Salman and debutant Sonakshi Sinha. It has been directed by first-timer Abhinav Kashyap.

Salman is a mentor and guide: Sonakshi Sinha
It was Salman Khan who prodded Sonakshi Sinha to step under the arc lamps and chart out a career for herself as an actress. It was Salman who inspired her to lose weight, took her on long walks during the shoots, and encouraged her to give her best while facing the camera. It was, and still is, Salman who inspires Sonakshi to give her best.
The comely daughter of Shatrughan Sinha is all set to take Bollywood by storm with her debut in director Abhinav Kashyap’s film Dabangg. And she has Salman, her lead co-star in the film, to thank.
“Dabangg was a whole lot smoother process for me because Salman was there as a mentor and guide,” Sonakshi is quoted as saying by a news agency.
Sonakshi added that not once did Salman make her feel that she was a newcomer.
“Salman is an amazing co-star to have. Never once did he make me feel like a newcomer. He is always full of inputs, advice and inspiration…He has always pushed me to better myself in every way, be it fitness, acting and even overall personality,” the 23-year-old debutante said.
‘Dabangg’ is set for September release.

Salman is Sonakshi’s inspiration!
The transition from a fashion designer to a debutante opposite Bollywood superstar Salman Khan happened so fast that Sonakshi Sinha says she is still short for words.
Sonakshi who plays the coy Rajo in “Dabangg” releasing next month considers herself extremely lucky to be part of the project. “Dabangg was a whole lot smoother process for me because Salman was there as a mentor and guide,” she said.
“Most people opt for the glamour way to begin with but the role of Rajo was something I couldn’t refuse. Dabangg has been a perfect platform for me and very few people get that in their very first film,” the 23-year-old actress said.
Sonakshi says the film is a perfect package with just the right producer, director, script, her co-star and mentor Salman Khan. “Salman is an amazing co-star to have. Never once did he make me feel like a newcomer. He is always full of inputs, advice and inspiration. Our families have known each other for a while now so the comfort level has always been there. He has always pushed me to better myself in every way, be it fitness, acting and even overall personality,” Sonakshi says.
