Name Khatta Meetha (1978)
Opening No information
WOM No information, but movie is one of best among all Basu Chattarjee ventures.
Trending No idea
ROI I have two different sources for cost and revenue information. From old magazine “Dharamyug”, I found one interview of Basu chattarjee and at one phrase he mentioned that almost 50 Lakhs has been spent on Khatta Meetha and he was worried about budget overshoot. Similarly at one old magazine “Sushma”, in their end year boxoffice report, they have put Khatta Meetha in Average category. Film Information didn’t carry any information about this movie.
Distribution Right From old magazine dharamyug, I found one interview of Basu chattarjee and at one phrase he mentioned that almost 50 Lakhs has been spent on Khatta Meetha
Recovery An average movie comes under 20%+ profits as per general standards. @this rate Khatta Meetha should have earned in range of 1.25-1.50 Crore.
Relative performance Quite Average as 1978 top hits was in range of 8-12 Crore like MKS, DON and Trishul.
Recall value Movie has aged well and is hot seller in DVD circuit. Found its place in Basu chatterjee collections DVD. Zee cinema has satellite rights of movie as a package deal and till date more than 50 airings of movie has been broadcasted.
BollyBusiness Note Khatta Meetha is one of best Basu Movies, got commercial acclaim in line with other Basu successful movies. As per old magazine Sushma, It was average success (Along with Devtaa and Gangster). Overall it was profit maker as well as quality product.
Verdict Good Success.

  2. haha!gud one Yakuza :p
    btw KM has 23cr weekend:BOI

  3. nice post . and the gustakhi is worth it 🙂

  4. Thanks .. 🙂

Yeah Dishant, KM is in range of 23-24 Crore. It will be Above Average @45 Crore and Hit @50+ Crore in my books.

Well Akki deserve applaud for decent performance of movie despite outright negative reviews from all sections.

  5. @Yakuza : i hope KM crosses 50 crore and termed as hit , i was really amazed by the reviews KM got by so called star critics , i knw it isnt a perfect satire one expects to be but surely wasnt worth 1 or 1.5 rating . i wd have understood had they given it 2-2.5 but giving 1.5 is really like pulling it dwn . infact i continually tracked tweets . i have seen same ppl tweeting bad abt KM abt arnd 20 times on friday but asd saturady and sunday come the tweets became mixed which was truw reflexion. infact i posted on NG abt that Tweets and twitter shows that sunday wd be great compared to friday

    • Most of bachchan movies was badly reviewed by critics during 70’s and 80’s. Infact with Lawaarais, Bachchan was written off. But not only Lawaaris was blockbuster, Amitabh is still surviving .. There’s only one actor who never criticized for his acting … guss who ?? … Subhash Ghai … 🙂

Jokes apart media behaves strangely sometime and I agree with you that KM don’t deserve 1-1.5 stars and irony is that it got these rating from almost all critics. Strange ? isn’t it ?

      • @yakuza : yup i found it strange. Bt to be honest i found This thing happening more frequently against AKKI n Salman maybe becoz they do more mass oriented movies . and Subhash Ghai wala joke to dhamaal hai yakuza bhai 🙂

  6. yes eys yakuza bhaiya ..verytrueeeeeeee
