Boxoffice Operation : Tuzhe Meri kasam (2003)
“Tuzhe meri kasam” is an interesting case of box-office study. Movie opened to dismal response at box-office of around 30-40%. Movie was released on around 100+ prints in 2003 and its capacity over first week was around 3.5 Crore. Despite poor opening, movie was being liked by certain section of audience in interiors and drop over second week was mere 39% and this drop registered when majority of cinemas in metros pulled off the movie from theater In second week. While first week was mere 85 Lakhs against 100+ prints, second week was 52 Lakhs against 70+ prints. Movie settled at 22 Lakhs in fourth week and continued in this range of 20+ Lakhs upto 12 weeks. After 12 weeks 10+ Lakhs business was coming in for next 10 more weeks. This was one of Rarest movies in history of Bollywood which celebrated silver jubilee with continuing business of lowest possible range. Although economically movie was flop, but it’s wonderful trending forced the trade analysts to keep the movie in average category. This is one of rare movies who did 500% of its initial business.
Other notable movies post 90’s, which we can keep in same category are : Sainik (400% of its initial, Semi hit) , Rang (400% of initial, average), Vivah (700% of initial, blockbuster), Baghban (400% of initial, Super Hit) and Bunty Aur Bubbly (350% of initial, Super Hit).
