Praz Gold : MY NAME IS KHAN (Hindi, 2010)

Those that know me well will know that I’m no advocate for Shahrukh Khan, I’ve found the latter part of his career lagging in many ways. Nor am I a huge fan of Karan Johar’s brand of cinema which comes off more artificial than not. Heck I prefer his productions like KAL HO NA HO and DOSTANA to his own directorial venture. Given the joke that KURBAAN was, my expectations for MY NAME IS KHAN was fairly low, however the film springs a surprise! Yes the film has some glaring flaws, however it doesn’t ruin the overall experience.
On paper the film sounded like a FORREST GUMP-esque feel good film about a simple man, and the film works in that regard. Johar’s pitch here is different and for once he successfully merges the backdrop of the city in to the films proceedings. The film has a noble intention, and unlike trying to delve heavy in to the terrorist sub-plots and it’s implications like NEW YORK or the horrendous KURBAAN, MY NAME IS KHAN is firstly and fore-mostly a human film before anything else.

  1. Saurin reviewed it and totally hated it

  2. Praz, you speak my mind brother, Master review …. 😀

There is one very strange observation about MNIK, I simply blown up by movie while screening, only fault i found was length of movie and climax. But overall i was ready to give it 4/5. But with passage of time i realized some potential shortcomings of movie like there’s nothing to take home from story, only thing i cherish is SRK’s performance. Most amazing thing is that even i found everyone enjoying the movie in cinema, but i hardly found any positive WOM from my friends. This is weird, even at, movie is at 54%.

But for me, i enjoyed it during watch and really appreciate SRK performance.

  3. Yakuza plz watch Dustin Hofman acting and style in movie Rain Man then u would come to know that what shah rukh did…..what shah did in MNIk is photocopy of Dustin hofman
