Veer – Initial Reviews and Predictions

After super success of Wanted, Veer is no doubt much awaited movie of salman khan in a similar genre (Action). If early indications are something to go by, Veer is highly entertaining and action movie. Few words i heard about Veer is “Movie belongs to salman khan and with high quote of entertainment and action” , “Movie is comeback vehicle of Mithun da” , “Veer is gadar of this decade” , “I am going to watch veer again” , “Veer is to Salman what Gadar is to sunny” , “Veer is not flawless, but solid entertainment quotient in veer make flaws far invisible“.

After getting such positive lines from some trusted source, i am sure Veer will not disappoint at box-office. It’s time for box-office prediction of veer (I know it’s late, but i was waiting for such positive feedback).

Veer (2010)

  If Accepted :

Opening : 36 – 42 Crore
Total        : 70 – 85 Crore
If Moderately accepted (which should likely not the case looking at some feedbacks) :

Opening :   30 – 35 crore
Total        :   55 – 62 crore

  1. thankx Yakuza. i really hope da film does well. am gonna watch it 2moz. cant wait. just 2 points i want to highlight if i may.
    1. its sad dat certain people r degrading VEER widout even watching da film. very sad indeed.
    2. am happy dat Salman is atleast experimenting. after LD i expect another good performance. Maybe now salman has become responsible about his career.

  2. Hi Guys I watched veer Just now First Day First Show. As I Live in Australia It released here on Thursday.

I Liked the movie. Cant Say Its Too good because I always Make mistake of Comparing Hollywood Movies with Ours. ( Hated gajni Because I had already Seen Memento, No offense to Aamir Fans ) Compared to other Hollywood movies not that good but if you take into consideration the Budget of our movie compared to Hollywood. Its a nice movie.

I would say more then action movie its an emotional movie. The relation between Salman and Mithunda is awesome. Liked mithunda’s acting a lot. Salman is superb. Liked the sets and the 1900 feel ( full Marks to Artworks team and also Costume designers.) But with a bit more effeort it could have been a far better film. ( Especially the fight scenes)

Special mention to salman’s Script some of the dialogues are too good. ( With Patriotic Masala).

THe movie reminds you of Gadar ( The Direction style)

In the end I think the movie will work in single screens and I think will reach around 60 Cr.

Waiting for the reviews and BO Collection on opening day.

    Love you Salman.

  3. After reading above comments I think I must have underrated the movie. I have that problem so Sorry if you guys love the movie more then me. Also would like you people to watch the making of veer on you tube they have given the whole making in three parts really nice. It looks like cast and crew have done a lot of work in the movie. And by going according to bollywood standards they have done a lot to show the scale of the movie.

  4. According to FArdoon of India FM, this movie sucks really bad and is headed for disaster.Maybe the single screen and Sallu fans will carry its burden. Looks like a big flop

  5. and Just tell me where did he watch the movie and i just checked the site before five minutes there are no reviews or anything. At least don’t give wrong impression to the followers of this site without watching the movie your self. I watched it so I am saying. Its a nice movie may not be the best but certainly different and pleasant to watch. I don’t understand why people comment on something without even watching it and on someone eases opinion. India Fm also said that blue is a huge movie and it has something you have never seen. But it flopped big time ( No offense to Akshay Fans) But I still watched the movie and then said it was not one of the best of akshay. If the film is bad not even the single screen people will carry its burden.

So watch the movie first and then give your opinion and please give a genuine opinion not the anti salman ( or any other actor) review. I am a hardcore sallu fan but if the movie is not good and i am disappointed in the movie i always say it was a bad movie. But this movie is not bad.So watch the movie first and then say anything about that.

  6. Good luck Salman. I cannot wait to watch!

  7. Thanks Yakuza 🙂

  8. some ppl r tryn to downplay veer.but i beliv yakuza..he is nt biased.so expecting a honest bo update of veer 2morrow morning,

  9. Rajeev Masand, Faridoon Shayar are all trashing the movie. This doesn’t sound good at all. I think this is gonna be a huge flop. Yakuza will be wrong for the first time.

  10. Veer will be big hit, from every where reveiw is comng good.salman will rock.

  11. JoJo bhai Rajeev and Faridoon havnt reviewed Veer yet…there is nothing on BH and IBN about Veer. How can you say dat…Well I might be wrong….can you pliz post their reviews here!!!!!!! Well if you have read their review dan you’ll be able to post it….

  12. Critics on Twitter are not too happy with this movies. Salman once again proves he can choose good scripts. How can a actor deliver so many flops and still have such a big fan base.

  13. Mo Rajeev and Faridoon have posted comments with bad reviews on twitter.

  14. RajaSen

Veer: Indescribably bad. A big budget massacre of plot and execution, soaked in bloody cliche. Think Mard minus Amitabh Bachchan. Arrgh

  15. Faridoon_S

    Anil Sharma,Gadar days r ovr..get real n smell d’scent of d loathsome blood splaterred all around.Wat a waste!

  16. RajeevMasand

U dont expect attn 2 detail, historical accuracy, gr8 aesthetics fm an Anil Sharma film, but can we have a film that engages? Veer doesnt.

  17. as expected for me…! if mass factor doesnt work..this could lead to disaster

  18. fuck dese critics. Rajeev masnad degraded LD like deres no 2moz. dese reviewers said BLUE is breathtaking etc. bloody retards. Raja sen is just stuck up SRK ass. da less said bout Faridoon da better.

guyz just make sure u watch da film in theatres.

  19. rajeev had even thrashed wanted n it became a blockbuster….

    • @ just4u

precisely. i swear to God dese critics frustate. wat hurts is dat wen Salman comes to give dem interviews dey behave so well wid him. talk bout being 2 faced. masnad’s an ugly cunt anyway. neither can he speak english 2 well. infact none ov em can.

i know i shouldnt be talkin like dis but dese critics no nothing but to bash and damage the chances of films.

      • I agree Raja Sen always has negative reviews about indian movies. I do not trust this reviews

But interviewing and reviewing are two different things. They cannot be biased just because they interviewed Salman and obviously part of interviewing someone is to be professional. I would prefer they give their opinions and not be influenced by their interviews.

Ultimately the audience will decide but I do not get a good feeling about this movie. Let wait and watch. 🙂

  20. Yakuza, understand your dilemma which led to the late predictions .. i have never encountered such extreme reviews for any movie before.

And not just critics this time, even some supposedly Salman fans slammed it and then there have been reviews like the ones you mentioned too .. just very confused about this film.

    • Feedback is heavily on extreme side, Critics have simply trashed the movie. My above predictions was based on few exaggerated words from some friends (which really excite me), but i am confuse now…. 😦 , Critics ratings are just reflection of my instincts about this movie just before i heard some audience feedback. But now i am again in dilemma.

  21. Just go and watch VEER, people who watched it, they are saying its excellent and best movie till date, so dont depend on critics, they most of the time have different opinion but movies got superhit or block buster status. So best thing is that rely on yourself not on critics.

    • I am not surprised or shocked by critics views .. its the fans who have slammed the movie that is surprising and disturbing when other reports say it is brilliant.

  22. Don’t think the critics will like Veer at all which has been seen by the earlier quotes from a few top critics. However it remains to be seen if the masses throng towards Veer. It will most likely be a slow starter. The masses will have the final say on Veer just like they do for all movies. So let’s see.

  23. my dEAR FRIEND THE RVIEWS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THAT BASTARD RAJEEV AND THAT REDIFF ONE. RAJEEV GAVE 3IDIOTS 2.5OR 3 SOMETHING LIKE THAT AND THAT REDIFF REVIEW COMPLETELY THRASHED THE MOVIE. BUT THE END RESULT IS IN FRONT IN FORM OF 2 IDIOTS.
AND WHO FOOL SAY THAT ADVANCE IN SINGLE SCREEN ARE POOR. IN THE WHOLE DELHI IF YOU CAN FETCH YOURSELF A TICKET FROM FRIDAY TO SUNDAY LEAVING THE VERY LATE NIGHT SHOWS . JUST CHECK OUT AND ASK FOR A TICKET IN MOST OF SINGLE SCREENS FOR VEER TICKETS THEY WILL ANSWER YOU “KHATAM HO GAYA HAI SOMWAR(MONDAY)KA HAI”

    • I expected Rajeev Masand and Raja Sen to give bad reviews .. they have a record of dissing Salman movies. Faridoon’s comments were not expected.

But anyway I am not bothered about critics reviews .. some of the initial reviews yesterday from Salman fans ranged from horrible to average while most reviews today have been excellent .. its the mixed views from fans that is disturbing me.

  24. Veer is a Disaster

    Iam so disappointed

  25. first review of Veer

  26. Taran has some very harsh words. I have seen a movie getting trashed like this.

    http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/movies/review/13908/index.html

“Final word? You have to be a veer to sit through VEER. Colossal disappointment!”

  29. SHAME SHAME PUPPY SHAME!

    Another Disaster from Salman

  30. This is from the critics about veer dat you can trust….read on

Salman Khan, Zarine Khan starrer mega budget flick ‘Veer’, which was shown to perfectionist super star of bollywood, Aamir Khan, on Wednesday before its worldwide release on Friday, floored him with its larger than life canvas and he advised Sallubhai to write more for films.

In fact, sources say that Aamir Khan was so impressed with Salman Khan’s latest flick that after watching the film he talked to Salman about half an hour on phone and pointed out that father-son relationship, depicted in the film, was lovely. Aamir Khan even saw in that father-son relationship (in the film father is played by Mithun Chakravorthy and son by Salman Khan) an element of Salman Khan’s own life. However, Aamir Khan felt that ‘Veer’ was not his kind of cinema and he would not have been able to perform such scenes on such a huge scale.

  31. Another review for Veer….by: bollypatrika…

Salman Khan’s performance as a brave warrior is appealing. Debutant Zarine Khan makes a pretty sight but still has to go a long way in acting.

The sets and costumes are magnificent and elaborate.

On the whole a decent flick.

    Source- http://www.bollypatrika.com/?p=4778

  32. I am a fan of Salman Khan… I think,, it is going to be a very big disappointed movie… 😦 I am very sad… hopefully, it does some magic in theaters … taran also gave bad review to Black and devdas. but it did very good.. and got many awards… shame on critics.. always trust yourself.. watch and then decide.

    • Why on;y those films, Golmaal Returns, Malamaal Weekly, and the evergreen classic Sholay were films that were trashed by critics, but audience had something else to say and these films were Hit+ at the BO

  33. Yakuza, please I request one thing, please give us continuous update on how Veer is doing at the ticket window?

  34. to all Salman fans

fcuk da critics and bashers. make sure u watch da film in theatres wid family and friends. i dont care wat rating its got am still gonna go 2nite wid friends. weve been waitin for dis day for a long long time.

btw like i said before rajeev masnad, raja sen, and co r da biggest retards around. Taran giving it 1.5/5 is disgraceful. so ur tellin me dat PI, KISSAN etc r better.

    LMFAO.

  35. I must confess Salman should stick to acting or not acting at all. This is one of the worst films i have ever seen.

  36. FIRST OF ALL IM NOT A SALMAN FAN .MY BRTHR INSISTED TO WATCH VEER.ND AFTER WATCHING I THOUGHT DAT WHY SALMAN DOESNOT USE HIS TALENT FULLY.I THINK HES D MOST TALENTED ACTOR ND VERSTILE .I ALWAYZ UNDERRATED HIM BUT HE PROVED ME WORNG DIS TYM AFTER A STPUENDOUS PERFORMANCE.IT HAS 2 B BEST PERIODIC MOVIE MADE TILL DATE.D PEOPLE WHO WATCHED WID BOOKED THEIR TICKETS FOR SUNDAY ALSO.I DON KNOW WAT MOVIE CRITICS LIKE MAY B TOM ND JERRY.GO ND JUDGE IT URSELF,BRILLIANT MOVE

  37. plz update about veer boxoffice report n people’s reaction.

  38. I haven’t seen the movie, but from the promos it doesn’t create any curiosity. And the advance booking for the movie which is comparatively use to be better in PVR bangalore than other multiplexes seems to be dismal for the movie even with low volume of screening. The first day collections could well be around 4 crores.

    • ya they have given less no.of shows to veer. dunno wy.. may be bcoz of lack of hype. 3 idiots is having almost similar shows as that of veer today. really interesting

  39. Hi Yakuza With 44 Cr. Budget How Much Veer Needs To be a Hit?

and What would be a break-even point.

    Thanks.

    • its not about the budget, the amount it has been sold to d distributer that matters. it is sold to 60+ cr so it will need to make 100+cr worldwide for hit.

  40. Hi Yakuza With 44 Cr. Budget How Much Veer Needs To be a Hit?

and What would be a break-even point.

  41. msg from makers of veer

70% opening in Mumbai morning and Delhi is amazing ,Jaipur is exploding….Pune is Houseull 12 pm show…..Dubai is awesome….expectations are gr8……..8cr opening will happen…..then sat plus sunday we will get 15more……. went to gaiety….in the first half 15mins whistles atleast…..single screens will BURNN and multiplexes will be decent…..good opening:)!!!! and chuck these reviews this a masterpiece for salman bhai and us and for all his fans…..

  42. awsome movie.critically it can b not so good, but entertainment nd performance wise it was superb.periodic movies arent dat entertaining as dis one.salman khan was at his best,nd others suuported him well too.

    • thnx for ur feedback.so yakuza i thnk those who saw d film today r liking it mostly.7-8cr opening is on d cards

  43. nice movie.good 2 see a perioidic movie made well.good performnaces nd melodious music.goin 2 watch agn wid family on sunday

  44. Veer got off to a very strong start at single screens with 80-90% collections but multiplexes were dull with around 30-40% collections. The collections at multiplexes of places like Mumbai and Bangalore were very disappointing.

This was the sort of start that Salman Khan’s last successful outing Wanted had but that film managed to pick up a bit at multiplexes and went on a dream run at single screens.

The film will get help in the form of a holiday on Tuesday but will need to show good multiplexes business if it is to emerge a winner unless it can go on to do huge business at single screens.

  45. i have watched this movie… and i liked it. i am not much salman khan fan but may be now i will be his diehard fan just cos of big heart he has…. he had take a huge risk to creat sucha big buget periodic movie and he has done well so far… i am a bit not happy with ending of movie but over all this movie is goood for bollywood. i hope and wish veer will be HIT.

  46. Hi YAKUZA

WHAT ARE YOU THOUGHTS CAN SALMAN SURVIVE HIS BIGGEST MISTAKE TILL DATE>>>
HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE YET..SEEING IT TONIGHT BUT MUST TELL AFTER GOING THROUGH THE REVIEWS NOT FEELING LIKE GOING TO THE THEATER…BUT PAID 300/ SO I MUST

WHAT DO U THINK..I THINK SALMAN IS FINISHED AFTER TIS MOVIE….
BIG LET DOWN….THOUGH I KNOW NOT INTENTIONAL BUT SOMEHOW HE IS REPEATING HIS MISTAKES…HE IS TRYING GET OUT OF THE RUT WHICH IS EVIDENT FROM THE INTERVIEWS BUT I GUESS HE NOT STILL ABLE TO TAKE A CALL ON THE SCRIPT ..DOING SMALL ROLES HENCEFORTH AS SECOND LEAD IN SOME MOVIES(WHICH I FIND DIFFICULT KNOWNING IS ego) WILL BE GOOD FOR HIM!!

HOPE HE LASTS ANOTHER 4-5 YRS TO ENTERTAIN US

  47. Critics love to trash movies..more negative they write more publicity they get..this forum is one of the example…have not seen the movie so can’t comment…One of the major factor in india for any movie to take huge opening is excellent music…producers should work on it overtime…its a sure shot way to get good opening..almost all big hits had great music too…bhatts are running their production house on this strength for ages…on Veer, lets hope it makes money for its makers atleast…

  48. Watch the movie, its not flawless, but its quite good, only the last 5 minutes are disappointing, the first half is amazing. Dont go for the critics, trust me its good. USP of the movie is performances by every one especially Salman khan. But we seroisly must get rid of this irritating guy call Sohail Khan. Over all a very good movie

  49. and dupe, shut up

  50. DUPE
First go and watch the movie and then decide.

  51. Saw it for the second time, in UAE it had released on 21st. Amazing. The crwods were clapping. Many of my friends have seen it for the second time. I am telling u guys , taran adarsh will eat his shit.

  52. Veer had a bumper first day at single screens with 80-100% collections while multiplexes had average collections on day one. Multiplexes in metroes like Mumbai and Delhi had first day collections of around 50% while Bangalore was worst with 30%. But multiplexes in places like Jaipur, Kota, Nagpur, Agra and Indore were very good with 70-80% collections. Overall the first day can be called good. The reports are mixed but with a holiday it should put up good first week numbers. The first day collections in places like Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan are huge.

    Source- http://www.boxofficeindia.com/boxdetail.php?page=shownews&articleid=1453&nCat=box_office_report

  53. i watched the movie. it is great. this is best historical/period movie ever made. salman is a veer. he is now veer khan. this movie is beeter than gadar.

  54. I liked the movie….critics r biased…..go n wach it …salman rocks

  55. Veer has done good business on day one with around 6.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The film has performed fantastically well in Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan. Bihar seems to be a record first day while other circuits mentioned above are amongst the top three ever.

Delhi/UP has also done well thanks to humungous business in UP single screens. Multiplexes in UP have also performed well. Mumbai, East Punjab and Nizam have seen okay business while Mysore, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are poor.

The film has by far the biggest first day ever for a Salman Khan starrer eclipsing the 5 crore nett of Wanted and Partner. Veer has mixed reports so its hard to say what will happen over the next few days but a good extended weekend will give the film good chances to emerge a success.

    http://boxofficeindia.com/npages.php?page=shownews&articleid=1454&nCat=news

  56. I am fan of SRK but one thing i noticed some fans of SRK and other putting wrong material about VEER Movie which is not good we strongly condemn this .I watched movie veer its a good movie perhaps best warrior stuff movie of bollywood.Plz dont forget to watch my name is khan on 12th feb.
@jojo@dupe@kuku some others i know change their name and write wrong about salman khan kick these bastards out of this forum.

  57. Me too, fan of SRK. I think the movie is fantastic, we should accept the movie is good so we don’t have to say bullshit about it.
    WATCH THE MOVIE! VEERRR!

  58. Veer first day estimates have ranged from 6.5 cr (BOI) to 7.4 cr (Producers claim) .. Yakuza, waiting for your figures.

Great news for Veer either way as it surpasses all previous Salman Khan films

  59. Check it out http://mehtakyakehta.wordpress.com/2010/01/22/movie-review-veer/

  60. I JUST don’t understand why we should listen to TARAN and trust him. People think differently and like different things. WHO know if he isn’t paid to say these bullshit. Please DON’T listen to him.

  61. 3rd day in UAE, house full in all cinemas, according to cinema sources doing much better business then what wanted had in first 3 days.

  62. Taran has started marijuana lately and needs medical attention immediately to stop any further nonsense reviews..

veer is ok and enjoyable despite some story/directional loopholes, it has good cinematography, songs and superb actions..

my 8 points out of 10

  63. not sure if i’m right abt this….but i feel that the general audience has seen too much of salman lately…. 3 films released too close and now veer after 1 month gap. i think it would have been better if they released this in April/summer because by then the fans would have been dying to see Salman. just my opinion folks…what do u guys think?

    • i agree wid u KM. id love to see Salman in a movie every month but he has had 2 much exposure. WANTED den MAMK month later. den LD 2 weeks later. den VEER 7 weeks later. 4 films in 4 months is 2 much. plus hez had DKD azwell.

      • I think its time to stop 10 Ka Dum .. i love the show but it has reached its peak and novelty has worn off .. it only goes downhill from here .. better stop before flop

        • @ Rosh

yaar i love Salman in DKD. i look forward to dat show all week. dont say dat man.

i do believe dat Dabbang will be promosing. Salman and Arbaaz is a good combo.

          • Naveed, Do you think DKD 3 will be able to get the TRP of DKD 2 and 1? If it can, good ..

I just want a change of the game ..still want to Salman to host something .. just a different one

    • Agree about the other 3 films but blame it on the producer’s strike .. Veer released almost 3 months after London Dreams (30 Oct)

Anyway, Salman’s next film is slated on September 10th (Eid again) and that will be his only other release for 2010 .. so aal is well

  64. VEER –

    review by: Dr usman Khawaja

    2009-INDIA -MITHUN -SALMAN -SHROFF-DIR-ANIL SHARMA -4/10

The valour and veracity of cinema does not lie in the vast scale of it’s production design but rather in a simple quotient called the vision of the maker ,as veer rolls off you experience visions of grandeur which remind you of the best of Bollywood like, Sholay and Aan, and you start dreading the oncoming debacle as you dubiously do not expect Anil Sharma to have even a fraction of the genius that was imbued upon Mehboob Khan or Ramesh Sippy, talents who equalled their Hollywood and global counterparts and even superseded them ,and that is exactly the problem that haunts Veer with its misdirection.

The clichéd plot from 1875 involves the noble struggle of a Pindari tribe for freedom from the clutches of the evil colonial British Empire, who indulge in divide and rule and here we see the conflict between two Rajputana tribes, Pindaris with their home-grown traditional patriotic values and Madavgarh as the treacherous traitors who have allied with the British Empire.

The majestic Mithun enters as the Pindari chief and he looks and acts every inch the warrior and stalwart he plays, while Salman khan is Veer and equally convincing as his cherished son who is something of a superlative warrior and honourable soldier, except that they look more like brothers as middle aged men rather than as father and son, but one can accept that as the plot evolves and veer is smuggled to Victorian London to learn the ruses of the British diplomacy with his younger brother-mini VEER–Sohail Khan-both in talent and stature ,and they start to sermonise and create havoc in the Victorian circles, which involves harassing English ladies eating “cone “ice creams[1875] and romancing the princess of Madavgarh, played by the quite pretty newcomer Zarine Khan, although she can not act or dance for her life but her face and figure are appealing.

Soon their secret is out and the London trip ends in a disaster, as the Pindaris are discovered for what they are by the Madavs, but meanwhile veer has sung and danced to two good songs in Somerset House with the founts playing that were just installed two years ago, and the Hermitage rooms are the setting for another song, which only were initiated a decade ago.

Still the movie is more authentic and engaging than the misery and blunders of Jodha Akbar and Mangal pandey, as Salman Khan manages to hold it with Mithun even for sometime post-interval and I found it engaging with ravishing production values, subtle colours and stunning costumes and choreography, barring some hilarious animation of Victorian London centred around Thames which looks straight out of a Pixar movie made for kids or adults on drugs.

But than Anil Sharma like a retarded miscreant starts to sabotage his own massala venture by indulging in the silly antics borrowed from his atrociously bad effrontery called GADAR, and you start getting nauseous and dizzy, while the poor actors start enacting scenes from Troy and Gladiator ,with some really over wrought stunts with skinhead wrestlers and British villains openly abusing Rajputs on their face in a feat of vulgarity, that will make your eyes bulge in wonder, it is a shame as with a little subtlety and restraint this could have been a quality production.

But as it stands leaving aside veritable performances from Mithun and Salman, four good songs penned by the genius of Gulzar and composed harmoniously and choreographed extremely well, alongside some great camera work, Veer is a rather vapid vessel which makes more noise than it delivers anything usefully entertaining, despite having the best musical soundtrack since Mani Ratnams equally flawed Guru.

As for the dialogues some are wisely penned and look like the brainchild of Gulzar, while others are totally delinquent like the of repeated Salman line where he claims to take out 5 kilograms of human flesh from his opponents body like he is shylock or a zombie, and Sharma actually was vulgar enough to show him doing so in one scene too, where he kills another Indian by eviscerating his liver and than brags about the fact that it will measure exactly 5 kilograms, I wish mister Sharma had an IQ =5, But that is hoping and expecting for a lot in the tedium of Bollywood today.

It can be watched once which is rather a blessing as I keep walking out of most Bollywood epics, but the idea of experiencing it again is like a nightmare in zombie land and the blame is squarely directed to Mr-Anil Sharma, who is a poor technician and a blot on Bollywood, but that applies to all mainstream directors today, as the last major movie of true merit and artistic elements was Fashion.

    NB
I am delighted ANTAHEEN AND FASHION have swept the prestigious silver Lotus awards clean within all the categories and well done Bhandarkar and Bollywood, as Fashion is a venture that can compare and compete with any global product in contention.

    RATING: 4/10

  65. 1.salman is voted as 8th most beatifull n attractive cebrity of
    world in 2009-2010.
