A quick note on UNKNOWN (English, 2006) and ACID FACATORY (Hindi, 2009)

I enjoyed the little thriller UNKNOWN (2006) quiet a bit, and wasn’t surprised one bit when producer Sanjay Gupta chose to remake it. UNKNOWN falls in to the same genre as films like CUBE and the SAW series, though the focus here is more on the psychological thriller aspect rather than horror and gore. The characters (a stunningly played out ensemble with Jim Caviezel, Greg Kinnear, Barry Pepper, Jeremy Sisto, Peter Stormare, Joe Pantoliano) are perfect for the sort of world which most Gupta films inhabit. However ACID FACTORY falls weak in comparison to films like KAANTE, MUSAFIR and ZINDAA as one would expect given Suparn Verma is no Sanjay Gupta (I don’t hold Gupta in high regard, though as a guilty pleasure have enjoyed most of his films) while Suparn Verma disappoints again after EK KHILADI EK HASEENA.
