Earlier Thoughts On IRUVAR (Tamil, 1997)

Following on from my earlier Rathnam pieces on THALAPATHI, NAYAKAN, and GURU…..

Every now and then comes a movie that not only serves its core cinematic purpose of entertaining the viewer but one that becomes a landmark movie event of sorts that goes down in history. A movie that leaves the viewer dumbfounded and completely in awe more and more as the movie progresses only to completely propel and involve them into a realm of cinema and leaving them completely oblivious to the world around them at the time, and folks, Mani Rathnams IRUVAR is one such movie.

  1. Is there any remake of Iruvar in bollywood? I heard a lot about it, however this is first time i read synopsis, Politics based movie is always my weakness and if it is so good, then i would like to catch it if available with subtitles.

  2. Nope…IRUVAR can’t be remade in Bollywood simply because the entire milieu/setting of the project is too rooted…

    • It’s essentially a true story of Tamil Cinema’s 2 superstars..I don’t see how they can do a remake!
