My thoughts on ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI (Hindi, 2010)
Recently we’ve seen a new wave of “masala” films hitting the forte. Whether it’s WANTED, GHAJINI or the recent DABANNG, however none of these films really grasped the sentiment of those Salim-Javed greats from the 70′s. Either the core emotional resonance was misisng, or the film was more a modern-day-counterpart of modern day Tamil/Telugu cinema than tapping into the rich history of 70′s Hindi cinema. I must admit, I LOVED the idea of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI (namely the title and cast) from the first day it was announced. Milan Luthria had impressed me as a story-teller in one way or another with almost all his directional ventures (KACHCHE DHAAGE, CHORI CHORI, DEEWAAR-LBOHH and TAXI NO.9211).

Ajay Devgn is 1 of the best actors we have today. His performance in OUATI was superb.

OUATIM was the best film of 2010 imo, it was so fresh, different and funky. Gr8 work from the cast and the team behind this movie.
