A very quick note on FROM PARIS WITH LOVE (2010)
Saw FROM PARIS WITH LOVE last night, not a patch on the director’s earlier film TAKEN, but this is still a fun, old-fashioned BUDDY movie in Shane Black mode(scribe of LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, DIE HARD LAST BOYS SCOUT and director of KISS KISS BANG BANG). First half is awesome (bit of TRAINING DAY mode) with Travolta in a total masala-esque, crowd-pleasing role as a coke-sniffing, hooker-shagging, “cowboy” bad cop and Rhys as the good cop. It’s John Travolta like you have never seen him before. Here he is “Mister Action”, the ultimate “Tough Guy”, the new Bruce Willis but with surprisingly more flair.
The pace is crackling in the first half and the twist is sharp yet predictable. The second half falls over…! The ending is a total let-down and reminds one of a cheesy 90′s Bollywood action flick.
