Censor Board bans Rann’s title track
Censor Board on Friday said the title track of Ram Gopal Varma’s , which is a remixed version of the National Anthem, is not permissible under law.
Varma said that he has included the lines of the National Anthem to describe the “bad situation” of the present-day India. The director also said his decision to reinterpret the National Anthem should not be termed as unpatriotic.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who plays the protagonist in the film, had also defended Varma’s decision, saying, “I trust the director’s decision and I am sure that he has taken adequate caution before going ahead with the song
But according to the Censor Board, the song Jana Gana Rann, tampers with the National Anthem. The censor has also asked Varma to revise the promo, which is currently running on all the channels.
Rann is an attempt by Varma to expose Indian media and apart from the Big B, it features actors like Paresh Rawal, Rajat Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Manisha Koirala, Purab Kohli as well as Gul Panag.
Varma says his movie is based on 15 years of his experience in the Indian film industry and focuses on the “psychological aspect of the media business” rather than its “technical” side.
